Biography

Deborah A. Ellis, Ph.D. is Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences in the Wayne State University School of Medicine. A pediatric psychologist by training, her research focuses upon developing behavioral interventions to improve health outcomes among minority adolescents with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, asthma and HIV. A particular interest is in the area of treatment fidelity and improving processes related to the training of interventionists, including community health workers. Her research has been published in top-tier journals such as Diabetes Care, Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology and Health Psychology and she has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health for the past 15 years. She has mentored numerous junior faculty, including recipients of NIH diversity supplements and K awardees. The quality of her teaching and mentoring has been acknowledged by two teaching awards from the WSU School of Medicine. She is also chair of the WSU B3 Institutional Review Board and has served as a grant reviewer for the National Institutes of Health, regional and international funding agencies.
